Camden Town, London – Leica M9 + 35mm summicron

Walking in Camden Town always inspires me. Lot’s of people from different countries, different cultures, different look and they’re all dressed in the most fancy ways. This woman was wearing all sort of  jewelery and caught my attention for an istant. I just wanted to share with you this istant.

Only the photographer knows what really happened

I recently went through my photo archive and I found this shot. It is amazing how a picture could lie.

We’re bombarded by news, along with pictures and video all the time and we think it’s all true. Photography teaches us that we have the privilege to decide the point of view from which we’re going to take the photo, we are also in charge of selecting the elements that are going to compose our frame. All of this happens only when we press the button of our camera.

If this is not enough, we’ve got to face the facts. We provide with a picture, the medium; so we make half of the job. The fresh viewer of the photo will put the other half. Emotional reactions, memories and thoughts that we can’t predict.

It’s fascinating how the world we live in allows us to agree on the objectivity of really few things… all the rest talks about our personal decoration of the world itself.

so my question is… what’s going on in the scene up here? 🙂

What’s wrong in the picture?

Florence – 2007

If I go back in time in my memory I can’t find any picture in my head of people dressing like this when I was a kid. The world is changing so fast that we find that nails on the forearm are cool now. I’m starting to feel old.

Inspiration

Sometimes it feels like you have to dress a certain way or to behave a certain way to achieve what you aim for. It feels like you have to live being a shadow of one of your heroes in order to become at least half as good. Sometimes you feel a burning sensation on your chest and you want to crash the world. Sometimes you’re just aiming for an idea or for something that will bring you what you want or what you think you need. Sometimes you try really hard and you fail really hard. Sometimes you forget who you are because you don’t even believe in the shadow you’ve become anymore. Sometime you feel so exhausted that you realize you can bear it anymore…. so you decide to stop trying to aim to an idea. Everything drops and you feel lighter… finally relaxed for a minute.

that’s when it happens! it’s when you don’t want it anymore… that’s when you can finally express yourself, enjoying it.

Fear

I’ve never played much with light setups and studio photography so I decided to fancy a simple photo shoot with some friends of mine. I immediately realized how hard is to set up a scene and create a comfortable environment for the model.

but after all… lots of fun!

Thank you Terry for your terrifying glance, Sara for your wonderful make up and Paolo for becoming my assistant!

Gaypride 2007 – Milano

One day I went to the library and find a gift for a friend of mine. When I came out of the building I found the gaypride going on in front of me. I always bring my camera with me so I decided to get into the mess and take some shots of the manifestation.
I didn’t follow the people at all, I stayed there, looking around me no more than half an hour. I didn’t take too many pictures but I was quite happy with them so I decided to put them together in a sort of mini reportage.
Hope you enjoy it.

A little story

I always end up photographing something happening around the main event, I don’t know why. This shot has been taken in Florence, at the first V-day organized by the famous comedian/blogger Beppe Grillo. There was a crowd of people meeting up to sign off a petition in order to propose initiatives to the government. There were a lot of chatting about the problems of Italy, some people where happy and excited, others were arguing about the event and so on…

After awhile I got bored about all that talking of ideas and my attention drifted away to this little show improvised just few meters from me by three street artists. They were completely retarded! I mean it in a good way. They where really funny! I started taking pictures of them trying to catch their funny poses, than I started focusing on the audience; kids are always the best in smiling.

while all this was happening, I decided to shoot this photo and consider it as the key of my experience that day.

the picture doesn’t say anything about the day I just described… so… who’s laying? 😉
