There are some days where you just feel too tired to do anything… so you sit down in the park and your head starts to wonder around…

I’m not really into flash photography but this time I realized that I wouldn’t have taken one shot in pitch black. So few days before the event I decided to look for a flash unit for my Leica and I spent almost half day wondering around photography shops. It was useless because is not that common to find flash units for Leica M bodies, which is understandable… therefore I gave up on it.

Hoping for a good stage light set up, I found that during the whole show, there was a strobe light flashing constantly… that was a great surprise. I checked my camera settings, made few tests and then I threw myself into the crowd. I had great fun

Leica M9 + 35mm summicron – Covent Garden in London

Finally a really productive Saturday. Lots of people in Covent Garden, lots of little stories and interesting situation going on every single second. I went there with the idea of walking around the packed areas such as Trafalgar square, Leicester square, Piccadilly, etc… but I couldn’t leave Covent Garden… I felt so inspired after the first shot, that I had to stay there… walking in circle. I had great fun!  I have to admit that I missed at least two o three good shots due to my lack of promptness… and one of the reason is that this bloody digital cameras allow you to check the photo after you shoot…. guys, don’t do it!! You’ve got to avoid checking your photos every time because it’s true, you miss the good photos!! the “decisive moment” you’re looking for is changing and evolving after you shoot and something unexpected could happen. Stay focused, get better framing, be ready! Don’t play around with the camera after you take a picture… you could miss the killer shot! (I’m talking to myself on this one of course)

Moments at the National History Museum in London.

It is refreshing to visit a Museum. Creatures and weird animals from the past were fascinating indeed, but the people looking at them were more interesting.

This series of pictures represent a turning point on my life. This is my first attempt of photo reportage with my first reflex camera, a brand new Canon 400D. I couldn’t afford any expensive lens at that time so I’ve had to use only my cheap canon 50mm f/1.8 (amazing piece of glass and plastic btw). I still remember how great dancing and melting in with the people was, trying to set the focus while people were bumping on me every second. I wanted to get as close as possible to the stage and be part of what was going on around  me. It was a great night and I felt really happy and full of energy. The day after I saw the pictures on my pc and that was the moment when I decided to take photography more seriously. Too much joy, too much fun… sharable emotions on pictures.

I keep staring at this picture and I don’t really know what to write for the caption. I don’t want to spoil the photo with my own opinion about what’s going on. I just reacted when I saw those characters walking towards me. I raised my Leica to my eye and I shot. Now that I see the photo, I kind of like it because it seems to describe quite well what I saw in that moment, without too much distractions on the frame. Regarding the story inside the photo… make up your own, if there is one

Who are you? I see your mask but you don’t let me see what’s behind. We all talk to our masks, we behave like a character that’s not our real self. you have to be like this, otherwise other people would think you’re crazy or with some sort of problem. Therefore we build up an alternative self, a fake person that we call “I”, and we call the others “you”.

That’s the play of our existence  in this world we’ve created.
